Injyana Symphony Orchestra

Out of the growing artistic expression from the roots of Rwanda came a need to form an ensemble that gives voice and musical evidence of the inspirational growth rising from the Land of a Thousand Hills!  In 2012, the Injyana Orchestra Rwanda was formed making it the first ever symphony orchestra in Rwanda, and the very exciting, inaugural performance was given on March 8, 2012.  The IOR is a multi-cultural, multi-generational musical ensemble that performs orchestral music of varying styles.

Past compositions have included Tchaikovsky's Sym. No. 5, Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Beethoven's Egmont Overture, Rosinni's Barber of Seville, and many others.  Watch the video of the IOR's performance of 'Defiance' a special tribute to Rwanda's Genocide Memorial week.

This ensemble is perfect for the visiting, or mostly permanent Ex-pats who thought they had to give up this sort of opportunity when moving to Rwanda.  Actually, it’s all here.  Wow! - Classical music in Rwanda!  If you’re coming to this region and seeing this page ahead of time, by all means, bring your instrument!

The IOR combines experienced musicians, adults or students of all cultures with some of our new Rwandan musicians who have reached a high enough level of proficiency.  What a thrilling opportunity!
