Eligibility – The Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Band have a requirement of prior musical training.  These groups accommodate semi-professional level musicians combined with new Rwandan music students.  At least 2 to 3 years experience is recommended, with possible exceptions.  The Junior Orchestra and Community Band an accommodate adults or students with limited musical training (1 to 3 years or so) and performs music at a beginning to intermediate level. If you are interested in joining an ensemble, but don't yet have musical experience, please contact us to learn how you can get started.

Attendance and Promptness -  With rehearsals only taking place once a week, every minute together is extremely valuable. All Injyana participants will be asked to fill out a commitment form at the first rehearsal.  We are asking for Injyana Ensemble members to not schedule appointments during rehearsal time and to stay dedicated throughout the rehearsal weeks leading up to the concert.

As well, plan on arriving early so that we may begin ON-TIME. Arriving late will not only affect your inclusion, but also effects others.  Remember - for a musician, on-time is early. Pick up times for Junior Orchestra and Community Band are very strict as the directors leave immediately to participate in other ensembles.

What is needed? - Your instrument, a folder to keep your music in, a pencil for rehearsal markings, availability to be prepared on your music by practicing individually outside of rehearsal, and enthusiam for something really great to take place.

Appropriate Instruments - Injyania Ensembles accomodate all orchestral and traditional "big band" jazz instruments. Limited spots are available for keyboardists and guitarsts (who read music).  Please note - at this time we are not offering keyboard class, or guitar class, but may in the future. Information on learning keyboard and guitar can be offered upon inquiry.

Instrument rental – On a limited basis, some instruments (including strings) are available for rent through the Rwanda Rising inventory.  Please contact Lance Gaskill right away for a reservation. (rental fees apply)
